Production of trout feed
(Produktion af ørredfoder)

Denmark
2000

Trout feed is produced industrially for aquaculture trouts.

Process description

The present data refer to trout feed production in three factories in Jutland, Denmark in 2000. The main processes are following 1) raw materials (fishmeal, fish oil, wheat, soybeans, gluten, minerals, vitamins and colour) are grinded and mixed, 2) the mixture is conditioned by heating with steam, 3) the conditioned mixture extruded to pellets, 4) the pellets are dryed with hot air, 5) the pellets are cooled, packed and stored before distribution to trout farmers.

Data collection and treatment

Data (except air-emissions) have been collected from three major trout feed producers. Data are based on producers green accounts and other records from 2000. Inputs and outputs have been determined as a non-weighted average over the year from the three facories.

Technical scope

All production processes as well as administration are included. Emissions to municipal waste water treatment has not been included. packaging has not been included.

Representativity

The three considered feedfactories covers the danish markted almost 100%.

Validation

Data from the three factories are quite uniform.

Inputs and outputs
